The Hugo Initiative was born from the heartache of losing someone who wasn’t “just a pet”—he was family, our first, our best friend, and our greatest teacher in unconditional love.
Hugo, our beloved English Mastiff, was more than an animal companion—he was the heartbeat of our home. As our first pet as a family, he introduced us to a kind of love we hadn’t known before: quiet yet powerful, constant and forgiving. From the moment he lumbered into our lives, Hugo brought with him an overwhelming sense of warmth, loyalty, and grace.
For five unforgettable years, he taught us how to be more patient, more present, and more compassionate. His gentle eyes and steady presence turned ordinary days into cherished memories. Losing him to kidney disease was a heartbreak we never imagined—a void that can never be filled.
But in our grief, a purpose was born. The Hugo Initiative exists to honour his legacy: to extend the same love, care, and dignity to animals in need that Hugo so effortlessly gave to us. Through this foundation, we hope to be what Hugo was to us—a source of comfort, support, and unconditional love.
